Introducing the Summer Reading Challenge

Join the club! Join the Challenge!

The Summer Reading Club team is excited to announce a new resource to encourage summer long participation in the SRC: the SRC 40-Day Challenge.

Participants will be encouraged to ‘Join the club! Join the challenge!’, shifting the emphasis away from counting books or hours read over the summer to days read; making participation achievable for all involved. If participants read for 40 days over the course of the QLD summer, they will have stayed engaged for 88% of the holidays! Extra days are a bonus.

In addition, rather than asking children and families to ‘register’ their participation, support templates that ask children and families to ‘pledge’ the days they hope to read will be provided to libraries to track participation.
Challenge activities will replace the production of the age-level activity booklets and align to Queensland’s First 5 Forever strategies (Reading, Playing, Talking and Singing with children) and have been designed to increase access to library collections, promote visitations and library memberships. Challenge activities are not age specific, so all members of the family or interested members of the public can participate in summer reading club activities all summer long!

A suite of exciting resources to support the Challenge in your libraries will be available for download shortly, along with information regarding the challenge. Watch this space!
