Sam Moran
My favourite book when I was young was the Cowboy Sam book by Edna Walker Chandler. I think this is because we had the same name. I couldn’t get enough of this book and would read it over and over in my bed each night. Cowboy Sam had lots of cowboy stuff like his special cowboy hat, his saddle that he used to put on his horse Dandy and his rope.
Sam had lots of adventures with his friends Big Bill and Shorty. Big Bill would make good things for Sam to eat and Shorty would help Sam fight his adversary, Black Wolf. Black Wolf was a real wolf who would sneak up on Cowboy Sam and his cows while they were asleep in the bush. Sam would pull out his trusty rifle and chase Black Wolf away, ready to fight another day.
Sam, Shorty and Big Bill would go on many adventures but would always take their Snake Bite box in case someone was bitten. I remember being upset that Sam’s horse Dandy got bitten but survived thanks to the Snake Bite Box…Shorty never forgot to take it.
I’d love to read this book again someday, just for old time sake!!
